Becoming People of Faith

Do you wonder how can we become people of faith and courage?

Our days are filled with stressful situations that send us reeling in fear and anxiety. We often feel paralyzed by our fears and doubts, and we are tempted to retreat.

During these pivotal times moments, we must remember that we can choose faith over fear.

Sometimes, all we need to have a breakthrough and victory as a community is a leader whose example motivates and inspires us. It is amazing what influence the courage of one person can have.

Johnathan was just the type of courageous leader his people needed. His faithfulness paved the way to a great victory for the Israelites.

Let’s explore together how God responded to his act of faith and courage by providing everything needed in my guest post for Living By Design Ministries.

A Biblical Example of Faith and Courage

Israel and the Philistines were in a constant war conflict during the reign of King Saul. In many aspects, Israel was weaker.

For example, we learn in 1 Samuel chapter 13 that Israel didn’t have weapons because the Philistines had banned the blacksmiths from the land of Israel.

“So on the day of battle not a sword or spear could be found in the hand of any of the troops who were with Saul and Jonathan; only Saul and his son Jonathan had weapons” (1 Samuel 13:22).

Nevertheless, God gave Jonathan the idea, desire, faith, and courage to go to the Philistine outpost and attack it.

Jonathan said to the attendant who carried his weapons, “Come on, let’s cross over to the garrison of these uncircumcised men. Perhaps the Lord will help us. Nothing can keep the Lord from saving, whether by many or by few” (1 Samuel 14:6).

What a powerful statement of faith: nothing can hinder the Lord from saving, whether by many or by few.

This courage comes from faith properly placed: not in the human strength and equipment, but in God’s saving power.
